What are your new year resolutions? That is the question everyone seems to be asking around this time of the year. I never understood this concept, but many of us engage in it. Just because it is January 1st we feel a need to change so that we can tell others what our resolutions are. What happened to changing because YOU want it or because you NEED too? Why only think about change in the beginning of the new year?
Every single day you wake is a new beginning, a clean slate. You don’t need the first of the year to make a change. This year I have no resolutions, I only have commitments to myself which are ongoing and independent of “time of the year.” I am committed to doing whatever it is that makes me happy and keeps me in good mental, physical and spiritual health. I live this commitment on a daily basis and it does not change.
I know some may argue resolutions and commitments the same thing. Well ponder this… If I ask you what are you committed too vs asking you what are your new years resolutions, would you give the same answer? I willing to bet not. The reason why are resolutions don’t come to light is because we don’t have commitments. Resolutions are intentions. Commitment is acting on those intentions. So leave the resolutions with 2011, in the past and shape your future with commitments. Now have a happy new and make 2012 yours!
